What is the PADI Assistant Instructor Course?
You have benefited greatly from the patient guidance and consistent mentorship of your instructor. You want to pass it on and help other divers. Before you become a full fledged scuba instructor, gain more experience by becoming a PADI Assistant Instructor! You will learn to assist the instructor during training sessions and even give it a go with some teaching responsibilities.
What you can do after this course
- Conduct theory classes and assess Open Water Diver surface skills under indirect supervision of an instructor
- Conduct confined water dives
- Teach specialty courses such as the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy or the Project AWARE Specialty courses
- Conduct PADI Seal Team AquaMissions
- The next step is the Padi Open Water Scuba Instructor Course or other Specialties.

Course Prerequisites
- At least 18 years old
- A PADI Divemaster
- CPR and first aid training certified
- Logged more than 60 dives, including night, deep and navigation dives
- A certified diver for at least 6 months
- Fully Equipped
To be 'Fully Equipped' you need...
- Mask, fins and snorkel
- Underwater slate and pencils
- Pocket mask
- Emergency signalling devices (whistle and safety sausage).
- BCD and regulator with alternate air source, SPG.
- A Depth Gauge
- Underwater timing device
- Wetsuit
- Knife
- Compass

- How to present and conduct skills under indirect supervision of an instructor
- How to conduct confined water dives
- How to conduct PADI Seal Team AquaMissions
- What your role and responsibilities are as a PADI Assistant Instructor
- How to use the Instructor manual and get the base understanding for becoming an instructor
- How to put your knowledge into action through on-the-job training
The course structure is modular in three main components and the duration of the course depends on your progress and availability. It normally ranges from 2 weeks to 1 month.

Knowledge Development
The academic training comprises independent study and seven presentations over 4 theory sessions. Complete the knowledge reviews at your own pace and attend all the presentations, with a final assessment – Assistant Instructor Standards Exam. It has a 75% pass mark.

What to Prepare?
Candidates must complete all the Knowledge Reviews in the candidate workbook before sessions.
Confined Water
There will be pool sessions where you present your skills and “teach” students with problems. You will be assessed on your skills, presentations of the skills and your ability to spot and solve problems the students encounter. Depending on the class size, the number of classes is to be determined.

Usually Sundays, 9:30am to 3:30pm the latest.

What to Prepare?
Please bring a light lunch and water, sunscreen, full set of equipment, slates and swimming attire too.
Internship & Assessment
For the internship, you will need to assist an instructor with student training and you will be assessed by the instructor. You will be assessed on how well you handle students, Doing the internship will also provide you with hands-on experience,vital for the Instructor course.

Location
One weekend in Malaysia (Friday 7:00pm to Sunday 10:00pm)
