What is the PADI Divemaster Course?

Diving is a lifestyle to you and you are ready to go professional. Your journey begins here with the PADI Divemaster program. Under close mentorship of a PADI Instructor, you deepen your dive knowledge and build your scuba skills. Be challenged to take on a leadership and supervisory role during dives and assist instructors to train other divers!

  • At least 18 years old
  • A PADI Rescue diver
  • Logged more than 20 dives to start the course

Knowledge Development
Theory Class

Every dive professional needs to have broad knowledge on diving topics as well as some in depth knowledge too so you will need to participate in regularly scheduled classroom academic sessions. This knowledge is assessed through exams with minimum acceptable score on each exam is 75%. You will need to complete these before the next components.

There are eight exams:
  • Physics
  • Physiology
  • Equipment
  • Decompression Theory and the RDP
  • Dive Skills and the Environment
  • Supervising Activities for Certified Divers
  • Supervising Student Divers in Training
  • PADI Divemaster Conducted Programs
Emergency Assistance Plan

Also, each divemaster trainee must submit an EAP. Basically, it is an emergency plan for evacuation and assistance in the unlikely event of a diving accident.

What to Prepare?

Candidates must read the PADI Dive-master Manual and complete all the Knowledge Reviews, and the Diving Workbook.

Watermanship & Skills
Pool Session

As a divemaster trainee, you will need to have a certain level of competency in your diving skills as well as stamina. You will be graded accordingly and must complete satifactorily all of the following:

Part A: Physical Component
  • 400 meter swim.
  • 15 minutes tread.
  • 800 meter snorkel.
  • 100 meter tow.
Part B: Skill Component

Execute 20 basic water skills to a high standard, scored assessment.

Part C: Rescue Component

Execute a simulated rescue of an unresponsive non-breathing diver at the surface (pass or fail assessment)

Part D: Problem Solving

Exchanging full equipment whilst buddy breathing at about 5 meters in depth.

Usually Sunday, 9:30am to 3:30pm the latest.

What to Prepare?

Please bring a light lunch and water, sunscreen, full set of equipment, divemaster slates and swimming attire too.

Internship & Assessment
Open Water Dives

For the internship, you will need to assist an instructor with student training and you will be assessed by the instructor. You will be assessed on how well you handle students, anticipate the instructors needs, as well as your attitude on the trip. Doing the internship will also provide you with much more hands-on, practical experience and a greater insight into dive centre operations.

You will assist with:
  • Open Water Pool Sessions
  • Open Water Training dives
  • Advanced or Rescue Training dives
  • Lead leisure divers
Dive Briefings

You will need to give a divesite briefing according to guidelines found in your divemaster slates.

Dive Site Mapping

You will need to survey and map a dive site of choice according to guidelines found in your divemaster manual.

Sessions

Location

One weekend in Malaysia (Friday 7:00pm to Sunday 10:00pm)

What to Prepare?

Pack your personal things for the weekend, your passport and divemaster slates. Please contact us if you have any questions.
