What is the PADI Open Water Instructor Course?

Remember the excitement of taking your first breath underwater? Be part of the significant first moments of other new divers by being a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor. You want to pass on your passion and the knowledge you have gained about diving, as well as train levels up to Divemaster. This is the course that will change how you manage divers through mentorship and it will prepare you to function as an effective PADI Instructor by thoroughly familiarizing you with the PADI system and all its diver training programs. The successful completion of the Iinstructor Development Course will prepare you to easily pass the Instructor Examination.

What you can do after this course

  • Completely train all levels of PADI Certifications from Open Water to Divemaster
  • Teach specialty courses such as the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy or the Project AWARE Specialty courses
  • The next step to take more Specialties and Specialty Instructor Certifications.

Course Prerequisites

  • At least 18 years old
  • A PADI Assistant Instructor
  • EFR – CPR and first aid training certified.
  • Logged 100 dives to take the Instructor Exams
  • A certified diver for at least 12 months
  • Be a Fully Equipped diver
  • Have full set of ‘Required PADI Material’ for Instructor Exam

To be ‘Fully Equipped’ you need…

  • Mask, fins and snorkel
  • Underwater slate and pencils
  • Pocket mask
  • Emergency signalling devices (whistle and safety sausage).
  • BCD with low pressure inflator system and regulator with alternate air source, SPG.
  • Dive computer
  • Underwater timing device
  • Pencil and underwater slate
  • Wetsuit
  • Knife
  • Compass
  • Underwater lights (primary and secondary)
  • Pocket mask & non-rebreather mask
  • Logbook

  • Conduct the full range of PADI programs which range from Discover Scuba Diving to Divemaster

Course Structure

Our Instructor Development Course(IDC) is co normally ranges from 1 week to 1 month.

Theory Class
Knowledge Development

The academic training comprises independent study, seven presentations over 4 theory sessions. Complete the knowledge reviews at your own pace and attend all the presentations, with a final assessment – Assistant Instructor Standards Exam. It has a 75% pass mark.

Usually on Weekday evenings, 7pm to 9:30pm

What to Prepare?

Candidates must complete all the required independent readings and prepare presentations for questions selected by our Course Director.


Pool Session
Confined Water

There will be pool sessions where you present your skills and “teach” students with problems. You will be assessed on your skills, presentations of the skills and your ability to spot and solve problems the students encounter. Depending on the class size, the number of classes is to be determined.

 

Sessions

Usually Sundays, 9:30am to 3:30pm the latest.

What to Prepare?

Please bring a light lunch and water, sunscreen, full set of equipment, slates and swimming attire too.


Open Water Dives
Internship & Assessment

For the internship, you will need to assist an instructor with student training and you will be assessed by the instructor. You will be assessed on how well you handle students, Doing the internship will also provide you with hands-on experience,vital for the Instructor course.

 

Sessions

We have trips every weekend, refer to our trip schedule HERE for exact dates.

 

Location

One weekend in Malaysia (Friday 7:00pm to Sunday 10:00pm)
